Live Recording
Liverpool, England, Liverpool Stadium
April 5, 1975
This recording highlights
Fruupp in transition -- Steven Houston had left the band, and Vince and newly recruited
John Mason take over on keys. The show took place in what one attendee, Russ Reid,
called a "shabby place previously used for boxing matches", and the recorders
appear to be close to the stage for they pick up the performance loud and clear.
It's a good-size and lively crowd, with occasional heckling and whistles. However,
most in attendece let their appreciation for the fine music be known. The
performance, while not as polished as the previous-year's Liverpool show, is spirited and
heartfelt. Vince steps to the mike in Steven's absence, and carries on the tradition
of story-telling and engagement. The signature sound of Mason's Fender Rhodes
electric piano stands out.. And Vince seems to ratchet up his playing a notch.
The band concludes the set with a high-energy tune, Steam Machine, that never made
it on any albums but was the closing song of most 1975 tour dates. Unfortunately,
the tape recorder's batteries seem to have gone kaput by the show's end, thus listeners
are treated to a rocking-and-rolling rendition of this rock-and-roll tune.
Length of recording 69:16 minutes
