Modern Masquerades

Misty Morning Way

I stood upon an island in Erebus middle land.
And grasped at dancing shadows
In a world so strangely grand.
I saw a smiling gypsy play
With grace and beauty fair
I saw a falling dewdrop splash
And sprinkle in her hair.
Then turning to the waking day
She smiled and danced with glee.
Her grace looked on
As beauty dawned
And called to mystery.

Now mystery
Though hard to see
Looked cold and strange to me.
Sometimes inviting, sometimes exciting,
But always wonderingly.
And by his side the old man hides
Much hidden from the day.
His partners look,
my bones he shook,
Down misty morning way.

Then I climbed upon an autumn leaf
And sailed away to find.
The glory of the silver seed
A meaning of some kind.
Over the sky of liberty
And down the path of time.
Through floating leaves of tranquility
In shades of every kind.

I rolled across the golden sea
On waves of sleeping mist.
Climbed past the stream of every change
Within eternal bliss.
Then came upon a garden God,
It’s paradise I thought.
Wake up, wake up, for heaven’s sake
It’s nearly nine o’clock

Masquerading with Dawn

She looked out to see
The moon in the sky.
Carelessly passing by.
While all of her truths
Were lost in a lie.
Oh, but the night was high.
She always thought that life
Was bought and sold.
From whence she came
Was left untold.
And now she’s lost in a world full of cost.

She learned how to live,
She learned how to give
Always in need of love.
And once came a stranger
A friend of a friend.
Resembling a god from above.
Ah, but he loved her much
And loved her will.
But things came late and later still.
And now he’s gone.
Masquerading with dawn.

And she thought she could see.
Someone to make her be.
A friend most definitely.
She’d say explicitly.
‘T was love indeed to be.
‘T was love indeed to be.
She looked out see.
The night's mystery.
‘T was not for her to be.
Said the moon, laughingly.

Gormenghast

The darkness winds between the ancient stars.
That light the sky.
The stars are bright but doomed to die.
And far below the brooding castle lies.
The crumbling towers, they too must die.
But deep inside ... a baby cries.

The infant boy must learn the rules of life.
How things must be, too young to see.
He holds the key.
But soon the child begins to grow.
A prince to rule.
A web of stone.
He feels alone ... Gormenghast.

And time continues endlessly.
The boy becomes a man.
He must escape the fate which he begun.

The nights prolong, the days are gone.
The darkness is as one.
But through the shadows’ Titus sees the Sun.

So jumping on his horse he rode away.
They watched him go,
Their faces grey, and it was day.
Off he rides toward the world,
He’s left his past, his steed is fast,
He’s free at last ... Gormenghast.

Mystery Night

There was a man smile full,
No wonder all was grand.
Caught by a lonely spell,
Driven right beneath you to his hell.
Rhen defences filled, all his dreams, most times till.

One lonely night he called to see you, Mr. Might.
Nervously still he sat, lost in worlds apart from what was right.
Then the honour came, ‘twas just a name.

Through the night you where his game runs.
Just a whorehouse full of mad sons.
Recklessly he breaks through Room One.
Shoots, a pain, he can’t see …aghaaaaaaa.

Why

Hey, I was hoping you’d be in,
I just rang to say again how much I love you.
And now, I’m quite lost for things to say.
It always happens that way.
Each time I call you.
But I was wondering, if you'd been wondering, Why?

I’m so undecided though you were always on my mind.
Oh but I was holding back to give myself a little time.
Then suddenly it struck me, I was holding back too long.
Oh, for he who hesitates has lost forever, all is gone.

I went chasing shadows everywhere knowing you were never there.
But always hoping,
How can I begin to know you now.
A clouded past reveals somehow.

It's never showing,
New showing,
Never knowing, Why.

Janet Planet

Drifting through the night in a silent fleet,
I could almost hear her heart beat.
She lifted eyes, her eyes to teach.
I lifted eyes, my eyes to reach.
The Lady of the Magic Beach,
Janet Planet.

She came floating down through the ocean waves.
Telling tales of love and the lives she saved.
Told me how we both would wait.
Stepping out of time and fate.
Chasing shadows through the gate,
Janet Planet.

Oh, you know, you know it’s a game.
Oh, you know, you know it’s a game.

Now she’s disappeared into days of past.
Only lightning make her illusion last.
In my thoughts and in my mind.
Searching fast for words of rhyme.
See you in my dreams sometime.

Oh, you know, you know it’s a game.
Oh, you know, you know it’s a game.

Sheba’s Song

On the first and final day.
The lovely Sheba hides away.
Tense and nervously she lies.
Snarling Lady is ready to spring.
And hidden in the leaves the natives wait.
They're ready at a sign to seal her fate.
The wit's game once again begins.
The last one running, is she that wins.

And Sheba’s eyes fixed to the sky.
Crouching to the ground, biding the time.
The flowing river hides her scent,
But tonight's view won't be so fine.

The first and final day.
Ends in sunset’s flaming haze.
Paints a stillness stillness all around.
The Lady must move quickly now.
Her lover leaps up through the trees.
And looking down aims carefully.
The painted dart that will end her run.
Flies through the air, the race is one.

And Sheba’s eyes fixed to the skies.
Crouching to the ground, biding time.
The flowing river hides her scent.
But tonight's view won't be so fine.
But tonight's view won't be so fine.
